The Groom and his Groomsmen
In the lead up to a wedding there is naturally a lot of focus on the bride and making sure she is happy with all the details of the day. The groom is there to support her but can sometimes get a bit lost in all the decision making. It can be hard to get a groom to give his opinion on different flower arrangements for the tables when to him they all look lovely!
Between deciding on venues and the order of service the groom does have to make another important decision - who will be his best man and groomsmen? This can be a difficult decision as the role of best man and groomsmen is important on the day. Lots of people ask what is the difference between a best man and groomsmen? Think of it like the difference between the maid of honour and the bridesmaids. The best man stays with the groom, looks after the rings, give a speech and keeps the groomsmen under control. The groomsmen also known as ushers will help the day run smoothly and have a variety of roles including showing people their seats at the ceremony to finding a missing Auntie for a group photo.
Often a best man is a brother or old friend who makes the groom feel relaxed and can put even the most nervous groom at ease. A best man with a sense of humour can help too!
Choosing groomsmen is often a balancing act between family and close friends which can be a delicate process! Having brothers and brother in laws as groomsmen is a lovely way to involve family while including some close friends helps add a relaxed atmosphere.
As we are a husband and wife team we really can be in two places at once. Usually Iām with the bride during the excitement of the morning preparations and Ian is with the groom. Ian says that he loves to photograph the groom, best man and groomsmen getting ready as the atmosphere is a mixture of nerves, trepidation and often a lot of fun. Getting ready as a groom is a simpler process than getting ready as a bride so there is usually some waiting around. This can be a nervous time and when the best man and groomsmen really offer some light hearted relief. As well as helping the day run smoothly the best man and groomsmen are a huge support to the groom making him as relaxed as possible!
